FUNERAL HELD: Maurice Joseph Rainville
DATELINE: Swanton, Vermont
The Liturgy of Christian Burial was celebrated Saturday, March 25, 2017, at 11 a.m. from The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Mr. Rainville’s son, Father Marcel R. Rainville, SSE was the principle celebrant. Father Raymond J. Doherty was the homilist. Other concelebrating priests were, The Very Reverend Stephen W. Hornat, SSE Superior General of the Society of St Edmund, The Reverend Monsignor Peter A. Routhier, Father David J. Theroux, SSE, Father Brian J. Cummings, SSE, Father Richard L. VanderWeel, SSE, Father Lino Oropeza, SSE, Father Frederik E. McLachlan. SSE, Father Maurice J. Roy, Father Charles J. Davignon, Father Thomas D. Nadeau, Father Leonidas B. Laroche and Father Luke P. Austin. Assisting as Deacon of the Word was Brother Michael Carter, SSE and Deacon of the Altar was The Reverend Mr. Gabriel Gagne. Edward Daniel and Eugene LaBombard served as Ministers of the Altar.
A large guard of honor was formed by members of the Knights of Columbus, Saint Edmund of Canterbury Assembly # 2207, led by Faithful Navigator, Kevin Trahan. Music was provided by soloist, Jeanne Begnoche and organist, Michael Olmstead.
The White Funeral Pall was draped over Mr. Rainville’s casket by all of his children, Father Marcel, Marc E, Sister Yvette, Lise, Claire, Marie Paule, Jeanne, Rolande, Lucie, Jacqueline and Pauline. The Crucifix was then placed by son, Marc. Scripture readings from the Old and New Testament were proclaimed by grandson, Eric Collette and son-in-law, Peter Winner. The Offertory gifts were presented by grandchildren, Nicole and Aaron Simonds and their children, Fletcher and Mason.
Among the many delegations in attendance were representatives from Saint Michael’s College led by President John Neuhauser, The Society of Saint Edmund, Daughters of the Holy Spirit, Religious Sisters of Mercy, Roman Catholic Diocese of Burlington, Saint Anne’s Shrine, Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court Saint Mary # 468 of Saint Albans, Franklin County Home Health Agency, Saint Albans Cooperative Creamery, Green Mountain Forest Products and Dairy, Ashley Furniture Home Store, The Heald Funeral Home, Bev’s Shear Expectation, Grand Avenue Enterprises, Terricel Transit, M&T Sand and Gravel, Ben & Jerry’s and Highgate School District.
The Prayers of Final Commendation and Farewell were delivered by Father Hornat, The Rite of Committal and Interment followed at the Rainville family lot in Saint Mary’s Roman Catholic Cemetery with Fathers Theroux and Cummings reading the committal prayers assisted by Fathers Rainville, Theroux and VanderWeel. The bearers all grandsons were, Robert Raymond, Thomas Raymond, Eric Collette, Andy Morrison, Evan Murphy, Joseph Bacon, Matthew Carbonneau and Stephen Carbonneau.
Following The Prayers of Committal a reception was held for family and friends at the Nativity Parish Center hosted by Mrs. Joyce Bombardier and the Nativity Ladies of Saint Anne.
