FUNERAL HELD: Rick Michael Sawyer
DATELINE: Swanton, Vermont
A Funeral Service was held Wednesday, March 2, 2016, at 11 a.m. from The Kidder Memorial Home. United States Customs Chaplain Christopher Buckles officiated assisted by Chaplain Francine Poitras.
Scripture readings and Special Words of Remembrance were shared by Rick’s brother-in-law, Doctor Adam DeSanctis. Also sharing in words of remembrance were several of Rick’s family members and colleagues.
Among the large delegations in attendance were representatives from the United States Customs and Border Protection Service, Swanton Village Police, Saint Albans City Police, Missisquoi Amateur Hockey Association, Missisquoi Valley Union High School, Mater Christie Elementary School, Fisher Hill Greenhouse, A.N. Deringer and the Canada Border Service Agency.
A large guard of honor was formed by members of the Vermont and Champlain, New York Office of Field Operations including, Officers Andrea Gary, Thomas Sullivan, Michael Skeels, Chad Ray, Shawn LoBve, David Domingue, Craig Mayo, Joshua Reid, Jacqueline Rogers, Jeremy Renaudette and Charles Guyette.
At the conclusion of the service full United States Custom Honors were accorded the deceased by members of the US Customs Honor Guard Team. Members of the Rifle team were, Chad Ray, Michael Skeels, David Domingue and Jacqueline Rogers. The Flag Folding Team included, Andrea Gray, Craig Mayo and Jeremy Renaudette. The American Flag was presented to Rick’s parents, Sherry and Ulric “Mike” Sawyer and US Customs Flags to his sons, William and Patrick Sawyer. Bagpiper was, Gerald Tetrault; Drummer was, Joshua Reid and Taps were sounded by Bugler, Thomas Sullivan.
Following the service a reception was held for family and friends at the Nativity Parish Center hosted by the Nativity Ladies of Saint Anne.
