FUNERAL HELD: John Richard Thibault

DATELINE: Swanton< Vermont


The Liturgy of Christian Burial was celebrated Saturday, December 10, 2016, at 12 Noon from The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The pastor, Father Luke P. Austin was the principle celebrant and homilist. Concelebrating were, Father Marcel R. Rainville, SSE and Father Brian J. Cummings, SSE from the Edmundite Campus Ministry at Saint Michaels College as well as Saint Anneís Shrine. Eugene LaBombard and Cleo Yandow served as Ministers of the Altar.


A guard of Honor was formed by members of the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, Saint Edmund of Canterbury Assembly #2207 led by Faithful Navigator, Kevin Trahan and past Faithful Navigator, Leon Berthiaume.


Music was provided by soloist, Jeanne Begnoche accompanied by organist, Michael Olmstead.


The White Funeral Pall was draped over Johnís casket by his daughters, Jennifer Conger and Jill Farnham. The Crucifix was then placed by Johnís wife, Cheryl Thibault. Scripture readings were proclaimed by Chris Mayette and Bruce Spaulding. The Offertory Gifts were presented by grandchildren, Matthew and Amanda Conger and William Farnham.


The Prayers of Final Commendation and Farewell were offered by Father Rainville


Among the large delegations in attendance were representatives from the Vermont Senate and House of Representatives, Swanton Town and Village Offices, Law Offices of Bauer, Gravel, Farnham, Nuovo and Parker, Ste. Marieís Market, Saint Albans Bay Store, Swanton Chamber of Commerce, David Raleigh Insurance, Bevís Shear Expectations, Local Avon Representatives, Warren Fournier Home Improvement Center, Neil Speer Construction, The Handy Group, Missisquoi Valley Rescue, Saint Anneís Academy Class of 1963, Swanton Village Fire Department and Auxiliary, Swanton Rexall, Campbell Bay Campground, and the parish community of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary-Saint Louis Parish.


The Rite of Committal and Interment followed at the Thibault family lot in Saint Maryís Roman Catholic Cemetery with Father Austin assisted by Father Rainville reading the committal prayers. The bearers were, Michael Gingras, Matthew Gingras, Caleb Lothian, Joey Hartman, Tyler Thibault and Max Mayette.


Full Military Honors were accorded the deceased by members of the Vermont Air National Guard Funeral Honors Team.The American Flag which draped the Viet Nam veterans casket was folded by M.Sgt. Eric Evans and presented to, Mrs. Cheryl Thibault by Colonel Michael Morgan. The Air Guard was supported by the Franklin County Honor Detail which included a firing party and the playing of Taps by Lawrence LíEsperance.


Following The Prayers of Committal and military services a reception was held for family and friends at The Thibault Home on Fadden Road in West Swanton hosted by family and friends.
