Francis T. Berthiaume

Swanton- Mr. Francis Berthiaume, 82, a resident of Swanton, died April 22,, 2012 surrounded by his loving family.

Francis was born in St. Jean P. Quebec on May 5, 1929.  He was the son of the late Lionel and Yvonne (Thibert) Berthiaume.  On September 29, 1951 he married the love of his life, Antonia Bombardier and is reunited with her as she predeceased him on January 29, 2012.

Francis started working at a very young age to help his parents and the family. He then became a successful dairy farmer for more than 20 years before establishing B& M Construction and building several homes in the County.  Francis took great pride in all he did. He was respected and admired by those in both of his professions.

He was awarded Swanton’s Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year in January 1990 for his enhancement and support of its community.  He has served on many Community boards and committees over the years.

Francis had an infectious laugh, enjoyed telling a story and being with his family and friends.  Francis was proud of his family.  He is survived by three children and their spouses: Diane and Steve Machia, Leon and Anne Berthiaume and Richard (Bert) and Melanie Berthiaume.  He leaves his precious grandchildren: Robbie, Nicole, Samantha, Alex Burnell, Jessica ( Berthiaume)Brill and her husband Jason, Alyssa, Jameson, Erik and Mikaela Berthiaume.  He leaves two special great granddaughters Ava and Alyvia Burnell.

He is survived by his brothers and sisters: Lucille Kolish, Roger and Gail Berthiaume, Guy and Rhea Berthiaume, Denis and Mary Berthiaume, Jeanine and Tom Hawkins, Paul Berthiaume,  Sisters in Law,  Marilyn, Barbara and Linda Berthiaume along with several nieces and nephews.

He leaves many wonderful and supportive friends including his McDonald’s group and Elks Club that have provide much support to him over the recent years.

Francis was predeceased by a son Ronald in 1974 and his brothers and sister, Maurice, Arthur and Andy Berthiaume and Lise Loiselle.

The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, April 26, 2012 at 11 am from the Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary. 65 Canada St., Swanton.  Father Thomas D. Nadeau will be the celebrant and homilist.  The Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at the Berthiaume family lot in St. Mary’s Cemetery.

 

Friends may call at the Kidder Memorial Home, 89 Grand Ave., Swanton on Wednesday from 4 to 7 pm.

In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory can be made to the Elks Club Silver Towers Camp in c/o of Joe Montcalm P. O. Box  416 St. Albans Bay, VT 05481 or to a charity one’s choice.
